Backup Wizard

Location: Files/Backup Wizard

The "Backup Wizard" allows you to do the following:

1. When the page loads you will see three steps available. Step 1 will automatically be displayed by default. On this page you will have the option to do one of the following:

Backup: This feature allows you to download a zipped copy of your entire site or parts of it onto your computer.

The following are backed up and included in a zip file for your convenience:

Restore: This feature allows you to restore parts of your cPanel by uploading your partial backup zip file(s) that you downloaded from the backup feature.

The following can be restored:

2. Next, click on either the "Backup ->" button or the "Restore ->" button depending on your preferences as described in Step 1 above.

3. For our first example, we clicked on the "Backup ->" button. The Backup Wizard automatically moved to Step 2. When the page loads we have the following options:

4. Click on the button associated with the type of backup you want to perform. For our example, we clicked on the "Home Directory ->" button.

5. When the page loaded, we clicked on the "Home Directory" button under "Download a Home Directory Backup" section. A window appeared giving us three options (Windows Only):

6. Next we clicked on the "Save" button and downloaded the backup on our desktop. cPanel creates backup files as .tar files. The system will be able to restore .tar files so you do not need to reformat or change the type of file.

7. Click on the "Go Back" link. When the page loads, click on the "Go Back" link again. Or you can go to the dashboard by clicking on the "Home" link at the top left corner of your cPanel screen and then click on the "Backup Wizard" in the "Files" section.

8. Now we are back at Step 1. Click on the "Restore" button. Since we created a backup of our Home Directory, we are going to click on the "Home Directory ->" button in the "Select Restore Type" section.

9. Remember our Home Directory is saved on our desktop. Now we can click on the "Browse" button in the "Restore a Home Directory Backup" section and locate the .tar file on our desktop.

10. Once the .tar file has been selected, we click on the "Upload" button. A new window will open and will begin the Home Directory restore process. Follow any on screen instructions to complete the restore process.
